Osteopathic principles

Osteopathic treatments can vary in content, depending on both the patient and osteopath. However, the principles of osteopathy are consistently applied by all osteopaths.

Osteopathy follows a set of principles; these are outlined in the SBO Methodology page. The osteopathic principles are integrated into our methodology, alongside other concepts from exercise and naturopathy.

Osteopathic treatment

When planning a patient treatment, we consider, what will be effective to treat the patient’s condition, and what is safe for the patient.

Importantly, patient preference is a major consideration that may influence the treatment a patient receives. However, this is never allowed to override an osteopathic rational and treatment efficacy.

An example of how this may affect a patient’s treatment is the use of medical acupuncture. It may be felt that medical acupuncture is an appropriate modality to treat a patient’s lower back pain. But if the patient has a needle phobia, it’s unlikely they would agree to medical acupuncture in their treatment. In which case alternative treatments would be offered.

Here is a list of the osteopathic tools that maybe utilised in the treatments we offer at Stuart Best Osteopathy.
